Biography

Melody Burch has been a Certified Public Accountant since 2010. She began her career with an international family-owned manufacturing company where she was involved with domestic S-corporation and partnership income tax preparation. Her responsibilities included intangibles & goodwill, fixed assets, and state & local taxes. She also headed up the implementation and maintenance of a paperless tax department. After the birth of her fourth child, Melody decided to focus on her growing family and began her own practice working part-time. Her clients were mainly individuals and small businesses. Once her children were more independent, she joined another multi-generational family business, this time in the real estate industry. Over the past four years Melody has gained experience preparing complex multi-tiered partnership, S-corporation and fiduciary income tax returns. She was also responsible for the personal property tax returns in multiple states. She has completed a portion of a master’s degree in Taxation at Northern Illinois University and plans to complete this degree in the future. In her spare time, Melody spends time with her husband and four children on their small “farmette” in Wisconsin.

  • Favorite thing about NDH: So far it’s the culture. The firm is inviting, positive and fun! I also love the extensive use of technology. This allows us to be really efficient in everything we do.
  • Desert island book: Tao Te Ching
  • Favorite vacation you’ve taken: Ajijic, Mexico for a month-long yoga teacher training, was the most relaxing trip I’ve ever taken. Spelunking at Devil’s Den in Arkansas was the most exciting. And Zion National Park in Utah was the most beautiful. Fun fact – I’ve been to 48 states.
  • What is your side gig/passion project/hobby: I am passionate about planning and organization. I have been known to organize loved ones’ fridges, pantries and furniture. I also love a good puzzle in any format (1000 pieces, word fill-ins, escape rooms, etc.).
  • Favorite movie quote: Not a movie; but my 3 favorite quotes are: “It’s all a matter of perspective.” “Embrace what is.” “Just be.”
  • What is your go-to karaoke song: Bohemiam Rhapsody
  • I have an irrational fear of: Spiders
  • What would your last meal be: Pizza (shhh – it would be New York style)
  • Favorite workout or sport to play: Any volley sport (volleyball, pickleball, ping pong, badminton, racquetball, etc.)
